In this video, I find the greatest point being made is an optimization in the Netherlands for people to live where they live, not for cars. I find this to be an interesting point as in the US, I cannot dream of living without owning a car. I need it to get to school, shop for food, travel between cities, and everything else in-between. At the 1:20 minute mark, an overview of the available streets is shown. In the US, a grid pattern would have been made with every street being a through street. Here, it is show that there is only one street through street, which feeds the required number of dead ends streets to actually access the residences. While this seems like an easy way to get lost and frustrated with the layout, once you learn it, that issue would go away. From there, I can see the appeal. Cars are forced to slow down and the people who live there can be more comfortable.
